Here is a great 1.5" x 1.5" x 18" tree fern totem, just perfect for your mounted orchids! Roots can meander through the fiberous plaque, really catching hold! Watering is easy too.. either soak down with a hose, or lay flat in a pan of water for a few minutes! Long lasting and very slow to break down. Totems are great for little orchids which like to wander around, and mimic the more natural shape of a tree branch. Totum may be used as is, or cut into smaller pieces. For the home grower with no where to hang mounted orchids, place the totem in the bottom of a clay pot, and fill with gravel. Mount orchid above the gravel line (probably wise to do the mounting first), and let it grow. The pot and gravel will provide stability for the tree fern totum, and any excess water that runs down, will evaporate over time, and bathe the mounted plant in moisture! Totems, and tall plaques, are also great for certain orchids, such as species oncidium, which love to grow in a verticle habit, but which are potted in a pot of medium now. Simply insert the totem or plaque in front of the lead growth, and let it grow right up the tree fern. No need to mount or disturb current roots! |
