The world of fir bark has changed with the untimely fire at the producer of the best raw ingredient (the bark). We are waiting to hear whether the production facility will be rebuilt, but in the mean time we had to find an alternative source of kiln dried fir bark. The quality is not quite as good as our old source, but appears to be acceptable none the less. The "medium" sized bark is larger than we are used to calling medium, and the pieces are not as even as they used to be, but alas.. this is what is available. We have choosen, for the time being, to discontinue the "regular" fir bark mix, and product our medium fir bark mix with the addition of diatomite. We feel that with the larger size bark pieces, the "standard" medium fir bark mix will not retain enough moisture, thus the addition of the moisture retentive diatomite. This mix included medium fir bark, perlite, medium charcoal, and medium Diatomite! Excellent choice for most mature orchids! 1 gallon |
